Port Report
I've been de-port-ed! :P Surgery went good this morning. They gave me a local anesthetic and "popped" the port right out. Ok, it wasn't quite that easy, but it wasn't bad. This was my first surgery to ever be awake for... it felt pretty weird to be able to feel the pressure, but no pain. The surgeon had a little trouble getting the port out-- he said I had a lot more tissue grown around it than the little old ladies he usually operates on. The incision site is sore, but I can control the pain with Tylenol and I can move my arm some without pain. I still have some Tylenol 3 w/ codein on hand in case it gets too bad. Our family is headed to Washington, KS for dinner and a concert at Mayberry's. I figure music will be the perfect thing to take my mind off the discomfort from surgery. Dad's feeling better today-- he says his stomach is still a little upset, but he's been up most of the day. Thanks for praying for us!!

Port Removal Tomorrow and Recording Update
I get my port-a-cath taken out at 11:30 tomorrow (Friday) morning. This is supposed to be a simple, out-patient procedure, but I would appreciate your prayers that everything goes smoothly. I'm excited about getting it out. It's kind of like the final step to being done with all of this! :-)

Also, Dad woke up in the middle of the night last night with the stomach flu. He has managed to keep down two bananas and a little water all day, but he's really sick. Say a prayer for him, and that the rest of us won't catch what he's got. This morning when I went in to check on him, he said "I feel like I just had chemo" :-P

Recording went AWESOME last weekend. We drove through a blizzard Saturday night to get to Wichita. We stayed with our friends, the Lippincott's all weekend and enjoyed wonderful fellowship with them. We worked at the recording studio from 10am to 9pm on Sunday and 9am to 5pm on Monday, stopping only for a lunch break and occasional tea breaks. We recorded 18 songs. :-O We were all amazed that we were able to get so much done! The Lippincott's sat in on part of our studio time and Henry took a lot of pictures and video for us. Our recording producer, Mark, was wonderful. He gave us a lot of great advice and seemed to really listen to what we were playing, as well as what we described to him we wanted it to sound like. It will probably be about a month before we'll get a copy of the mixed/mastered project and we're all eager to hear it! I decided this was my favorite recording studio we worked at because they had good tea. ;-) Really, everything about the experience was wonderful.

One funny story from the weekend: On Sunday afternoon, we were recording a contra dance tune. Amber was playing fiddle in the isolation booth, I was on keyboard tucked away in a corner, and Dad was on mandolin in an area surrounded by portable sound-foam-boards. We were right in the middle of the tune (and it was going really good!), when all of a sudden one of the foam boards started falling towards Dad. I saw it falling and thought about yelling or jumping up to try and stop it, but I kept thinking that I shouldn't because we were RECORDING! (All of this in about 10 seconds). It ended up falling right on Dad and, needless to say, our recording stopped anyway! We had a good laugh, and I think the take after that one ended up being a keeper. :-)

I made it through both days of recording fine, but as soon as we got home (about 1am Monday night) I was completely exhausted. I feel like I am still recovering. I find it frustrating that it takes me a week to recover from a day or two of recording-- or most anything even slightly strenuous. I'm trying to focus on being thankful that I am able to do things for a day or two instead of the exhaustion that follows. I should probably learn to pace myself better, but something tells me I never will. I just keep taking one day at a time and do what I can when I can.

We hit over 10,000 views to the web-site last weekend! :-) Thank you so much for stopping by and supporting us with your words of encouragement. It means the world to me and thank you is not enough to express my gratitude!

Good Report
I got a good report from the doctor today!! :-) My CT scan looked just fine. He will continue to monitor me closely, but he is not concerned about anything at this point. My next CT scan will be in two months.

The CT scan went all right. The barium did not taste as bad as I thought it might. It reminded me of crushed up TUMS in coconut milk. It was a lot to get down, but I managed okay. My tummy didn't like it very much though. They also had to start an IV to put in contrast dye. No one had tried to use my veins for almost 3 months, so I was a little concerned. She managed to find a vein on the 2nd stick-- not bad at all.

I got my port flushed today as well. I talked to dr. about getting it out and he said I could do that anytime now. I'll call my surgeon tomorrow to schedule an appointment. While the port was a life-saver for me through chemo, I'm really ready to get rid of it. My doctor also said that it will take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months for me to regain my strength and energy. I told him that I'm hoping for the 6 weeks end of the spectrum!

By now you know that our family likes to celebrate, so today's good report was cause enough for us to do just that. We went out to eat at the Daimaru Japanese steakhouse in Salina. We got to eat miso soup and edamame and good rice and they stir-fried our main entree right in front of us. It was delicious and brought back many fond memories of our time in Japan (we went as a family for 2 weeks in the spring of '05). Now we all want to go back to Japan. ;-)

Again, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for praying for me and my family. The Lord has carried us through a very difficult time, and continues to walk with us each day. He has never left our side and He never will. We appreciate your continued prayers as I go through this recuperation period. Having cancer has changed my life in many ways, but today I'm proud to say that I'M A SURVIVOR!!

One Month Check-Up
My one month check-up is tomorrow. I have a CT scan at 7am, lab work and flush my port at 9:30, and an appointment with my doctor at 11:45. Please pray that everything will go smoothly and I will get good results from the CT scan. I have to drink 450mL of Barium Sulfate Suspension before I get there-- half at 6am and half at 7am. Then, they give me some more when I get there in the morning. I'm praying it doesn't taste too bad, because there is a LOT of it! Thanks so much for your prayers! God is in control.
